Antigone doesn’t like having her brother be dishonored with no burial, because she loves him, so she takes it upon herself to bury him. Creon is angry so he sentences her to be in the cave to die but Haemon, Creon’s son, is in love with Antigone. He goes to the cave and kills himself. Creon’s wife is overcome with sadness and kills herself, too. Creon is left alone.
When the oracle said that her son would kill his father and sleep with his mother she quickly abandoned her son to avoid that horrible fate and thanked the oracle for that. However, when Oedipus heard that Polybus was dead and realized he didn’t kill his father Jocasta said the oracle was useless. Jocasta is the type of person that chooses to be blind and accept the lies but only when they help her. If the truths help her then she will accept the truths. Jocasta is also trying to blind Oedipus in this quote.
This quote is a paradox because while reading this the reader can apprehend that the unintended meeting was not as bad as it should have been. The one thing that is keeping the true lovers apart is the family feud (Montague’s and the Capulet’s) that’s been going on for many years. But Romeo and Juliet don’t care and later on they go against their families and get married. Tybat (Juliet’s cousin) was killed and Juliet’s parents think that it was the reason she committed suicide. As soon as the nurse finds out that Tybalt is dead her reaction is very troubling and she doesn’t exactly know how to break it to Juliet so at the end result she says, “Tybalt is gone, and Romeo banished; Romeo that kill’d him, he is banished.” (3.2.69-70).
All of the other suitors in the house had disrespected Odysseus house hold. They should be ashamed of courting someone’s wife while they are gone over a period of time. Although many people thought Odysseus was dead many stayed loyal to him in his time of need. Everybody acts of disloyalty were then seen to be bad and then lead to the destruction of each individual that was trying to court/marry Penelope. Loyalty can be seen as a good characteristic in a person or persons.
Who was to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? This essay will examine the possible causes of Romeo and Juliet’s tragic endings. Romeo and Juliet became victims to their own love because of their families stubbornness, their own irresponsibility and most of all because of fate. The feuding family is a large contributor. The conditions forced because of the animosity between the families made the couple feel prohibited to be together and thus hiding their love.
When Oedipus asks why this case was not investigated the people respond that they were too busy trying to solve the sphinx’s riddle. Oedipus vows that no matter what the cost is, he will get to the bottom of it, both because it harmed Thebes and Laius was noble and loyal. Oedipus calls upon Teiresias, the blind prophet, and forces him to reveal what he knows of the murder. Teiresias reluctantly tells Oedipus that he killed his father and sleeps with his mother. Oedipus accuses him of lying on Creons behalf so Creon could kill Oedipus and take the throne.
When Creon learns that Antigone has buried her brother, he becomes furious and sentences Antigone to death despite his son’s and Antigone’s fiancé pleading, as well as a warning from the prophet. But as the prophet for-told, the gods are on Antigone’s side and for Creon’s crime he loses his only son, Haemon and his wife. The begging of the play, Antigone has her sister, Isemen outside the city gates. Antigone is trying to get Ismene to help her bury their brother, Polyncies. But Ismene refuses to help her sister, fearing the death penalty installed by Creon.
It can be seen that his first reaction was to take revenge immediately after knowing from his father that his uncle murdered him. Right after that his father asks him not to take revenge so he does not do it. This change can be because he is obedient to his father even though he is not alive anymore. Then he decides to give indirect messages to his uncle by making up a play in the palace. The reason about this is because before doing something Hamlet wants to makes sure that he is right and not judging his uncle and mother in the wrong way.
They say, “Love can be dangerous in the wrong hands.” In the poem, “My Last Duchess”, that statement is a fact. All that the woman ever did was smiled at the things that made her happy, but her husband felt as if she gave him the same attention as she would a stranger. He wanted to feel special and since she could not give him that extra attention that was needed, he decided to have her killed. He also took upon himself to tell the father of his new wife, what had happened to his last wife. He basically was informing the father that if his daughter does the same as his last wife then she would be killed as well.
Oedipus tries to avoid this by running away from his “parents”. Then he is confronted with the sphinx and solves her riddle. After he becomes king, he marries Jocasta (his mother).Tiresias gets tired of Oedipus’s arrogance and tells him the truth about the fulfilled prophecy. Oedipus doesn’t believe him so; he goes searching for the truth his self. Once he finds out this is true he blinds himself and banned his self from civilization forever.
