What is Motivation? It is the process of arousing and sustaining goal-directed behavior. With that said, companies are faced with difficult challenges to recruit and retain talented employees. They not only have to be able to motivate them, they also have to get inside of them to know them, know what they want, so in essence, companies will go the extra mile to keep the finest employees. As stated in the text, (151), when Ian took charge of the Glasgow office, he was destined to find out what people liked and did not liked about working for Deloitte. He quickly revealed that people remembered, “how you make them feel” and he then made that his focus. They have incentive programs (move assistance, flexibility with schedules, great programs as the jobs are good for personal growth, etc). Because Ian and Connolly proved to be great leaders, people were proud to work for Deloitte as they earned an 80% satisfaction rating in UK. Even when times were hard, they still find ways to motivate their employees. Sometimes, the questions are asked, how do companies go about recruiting and retaining the best talented employees? In Deloitte’s case, they utilize a variety of systems to attract brilliant populace and they ensure that their talents are effectively utilized in the company. They have the Skills and Education program that focuses on providing a range of volunteering opportunities to inform and shape their members in key areas and expertise of needs. Some of their programs are Employability initiative, teach first community, school mentoring, reading and number partners and prince’s trust business mentoring. With such process in place, sometimes this other question is asked – Are these efforts worth it? With every implementation of processes, there must be a follow up.
