Case incident 1) What do you think is causing some of the problem in the bank’s home office and branches? One of the most important problems in the bank is the lack of training for the newly hired employees because the supervisors didn’t have enough time to work with them. In addition, there is a recruitment problem; due to the high employee turnover, supervisors have to put somebody in the vacant position as early as possible, but haste can affect their ability to hire the most suitable people for the job. On the other hand, there is a lack of communication among the branches, and between the main office and the branches. All the branch supervisors hired their own employees, so the main office is not involved into employees’ issues. This miscommunication can affect the achievement of the organization’s goals. 2) Do you think setting up an HR unit in the main office would help? Absolutely, an HR Department is needed in the main office; so they can be in charge of the activities related to the personnel in order to contribute to the organization’s success. 3) What specific functions should an HR unit carry out? What HR functions would then be carried out by supervisors and other line managers? HR unit: -Placing the right person in the right job: Planning labor needs, recruiting, interviewing and hiring of new staff. -Orientating and training employees -Appraising performance - Serve as a link between an organization’s management and its employees -Providing incentives and benefits to the employees. Supervisors and other line managers: -Regular assignments (such as see costumers and make loans) -Appraising performance -Motivating employees -Departmental and personal communications Continuing case Carter Cleaning Company 1) Jennifer asks that you make a list of five specific HR problems you think Carter Cleaning will have
