CHALLENGES OF 21ST CENTURY HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT [Type the document subtitle] Brought by changes in competitive market environment, Human Resource management is evolving from mainly having an administrative role to a becoming a strategic contributor to an organization. HR management is faced with new challenges because of this emerging change. Aside from having to juggle several roles in the company, it has to deal with challenges brought by diversity in the workplace, changes in the workforce, globalization and organization reorganization. First let’s briefly look at the several roles of Human Resource Management. The different roles of HR management are administrator, employee advocate and strategic contributor. As administrators, they keep a record of all important legal documents and implement policies. They are also part of the finance department since they deal with employee pay. As advocacy to people, they play an important part in making a work environment where people are motivated and happy. They establish the organizational climate and culture. The newest role for Human resource manager is a strategic partner. Their objective is to support in reaching the organizational strategic goals. Diversity in the Work Force Diversity in the workplace is becoming more common in the United States due to the increasing differences of population. Due to intermarriage of other races and immigration, Hispanic population is growing. As we can see in the table 1 that there is a 43 percent increase of Hispanic population in the last decade. Hispanic population accounts to more than half of the 27 million increase of the total population. “The labor force will continue to become more diverse, with Hispanics making up to 18.6 percent of the total by 2020,” (Sommers & Franklin , 2011).
