(2014). Challenges and Conflicts in Sustainable Supply Chain Management: Evidence from the Heavy Vehicle Industry. Supply Chain Forum: International Journal, 15(1), 22-32. In this article, the authors report the challenges and conflicts in sustainable supply chain management by comparing the heavy vehicle industry in China and Sweden. As the authors present, there are several definitions of sustainability, the differences of which are not as significant because most of them are based on environmental issues and long term impact on the supply chain. Furthermore, there are two general approaches to reduce environmental impacts, which are relying on new, energy efficient technology and relying on companies to rebuild their sustainable process. In addition, challenges and conflicts, such as the increase of cost, changing cultures, management of uncertainties and trade-offs show up when companies try to realize sustainability. Finally, based on an explorative study on vehicle industry in Sweden and China, the authors point out that two practical method of tackling challenge and easing conflicts are intensified international collaboration on environment and traffic safety. There is no doubt that sustainability is one of the hottest issues in various industries. High cost, culture differences, uncertainties and trade-offs are the main challenges that companies face during their process to sustainability. However, sustainable supply chain is the trend for future business. We may next research on how companies should prioritize sustainability relative to other supply chain goals. 2.
