It is important for me to respect people and their opinions, always listen to people and make them feel valued and lastly always act professional. What are the traits of an effective leader? Do I have these traits? How would I develop these traits? To be an effective leader requires traits that are either inherent to a person or can be learnt.

Mentoring involves a lot of discussions and open conversations between the mentor and the mentee, therefore the mentor should know how to effectively get the message across to the individual with ease. This is especially important during the giving of feedback to the mentee. The mentor must be able to relay feedback and remarks constructively and positively without demeaning the mentor’s self-esteem. Tim can capture the attention of our customers because he listens and then provides the stimuli that meet their needs. Tim is always prepared for a one sided or two sided argument, he knows his audience, he knows what is needed for both sides to win. He keeps communication simple, logical and always connects on a personal level. With our customers and our suppliers Tim is always looking to modify the existing attitude to be more in favor of ICS or with a new customer create a new attitude that is favorable to ICS. Tim has an ability to make friends with our customers and suppliers because ICS has the social proof in our industry that we will execute as we agree and if there are issues we will correct them.
I think the humanistic-encouraging trait is important because like any other leader, people must trust you, set goals that are attainable, learn how to resolve issues in a constructive manner, and encourage your followers. I enjoy listening to people’s problems and helping them think positive and find the healthiest or best solution. I am normally the person my friends come to when they need to talk to someone. I believe as a manager a person must have a sense of how a person is and deal with each person individually if needed so each person as an understanding of what is the mission is. Controlling as a manager is something I believe I will have to work on.
