What ifs * Comments: 1. I think that the situation of Alfredo as a man having to choose between ‘love’ and reputation make the story timeless & moving because up until now, men and women experience the same dilemma Alfredo had. People experience unreasonableness & confusion in making important decisions. The ideas of considering the society’s opinions and following the norm are still considered nowadays like in the past as if time never flowed. 2. I hate the way the story made me feel about love. It made me question the genuineness of love. Not the literal word love, but the love we “feel in our hearts”. The ending of Alfredo being emotionless and indifferent makes me kind of sad. * Facts: 1. Scientifically, stars die. When a star runs out of hydrogen supply, its life nearly ends. Most stars we see at night are probably dead. When a star explodes, it gives out light which travels to the earth and takes more than eight minutes to reach our eyes. Hence, we’re looking into the past. Like what Alfredo did to his memories of Julia. 2. According to the Triangular Theory of Love, all love is composed of three elements: intimacy, passion and commitment. It involves physical and emotional intimacy for a relationship to work out. There is a scientific explanation why Alfredo’s “love” faded in time. * Questions 1. Is it true that forever doesn’t exist when it comes to love? Why did it take so long for Alfredo and Esperanza to marry if what they felt is “real love”? 2.
