Certification marks have become synonymous with quality products. Allowing retailers to increase their selling power, expansion into new business areas and enhance their reputation. Aim of certification marks is to set strict standards of performance and appearance for the product carrying the marks and by this means guarantee their quality and protect the consumer. The Product Certification Schemes aim at providing Third Party Guarantee of quality, safety and dependability of products to the ultimate customer. Presence of certification marks known as Standard Mark on a product is an assurance of conformity to the specifications. The product certification schemes are generally voluntary in nature. These are largely based on general rules for third party certification system of determining conformity with product standards. Certification agencies grant a license to a particular manufacturer after going through the manufacturing and testing facilities for achieving required quality. The conformity is ensured by regular surveillance of the licensee's performance by surprise inspections and testing of samples, drawn both from the market and factory.
