According to the European Jazz Network, Cruz "commands her realm with a down-to-earth dignity unmistakably vibrant in her wide smile and striking pose." One of 14 children, born in the small village of Barrio Santos Suarez, Havana, Cruz was drawn to music from an early age. Her first pair of shoes was a gift from a tourist for whom she sang. In addition to spending many evenings singing her younger siblings to sleep, Cruz sang in school productions and community gatherings. Taken to cabarets and nightclubs by an aunt, she was introduced to the world of professional music.
The members are Michael Gil (guitar and percussion), Manuel Clua (flute), Yuri Escobar (percussion), Gerardo Guerra Santana (bass), Emigdio Perez (electric guitar), Geordany Caraces (vocalist) and Eduardo Popy Ramos (percussion). The interesting part about their music is the fusion of genres, including elements of Brazilian music, jazz and classic music. What caught my attention the most was how the band make the audience mentally transport to Cuba and created the sensation that we were in a Cuban’ Theater. Some of the songs performed were Story playin (drum negrita), Climbing the Mountain, Vals, Eru aye, Caracteristicas de la danza (rumba), Caravan and Jaw harp. The highnesses of the instruments accompanied with the vocalist create a sensation of life and energy. The vocalist was scatting all the instruments that they used in each piece.

Hiswife, the black vocalist Laura Duncan first, and him perform it at Madison Square Garden. Then the song was introduced to Billie Holiday who first performed it at Café Society in 1939. Billie Holiday was an American jazz singer and songwriter. When Barney Josephson, founder of the Café Society in Greenwich Village, heard of the song he went and introduced it to Billie. Experiencing the works of Britney first hand is the most amazing feeling in the world. The way that she moved up on stage and got the crowd going really made me look up to her as a role model. Her vocals and the way she interacted with us made it such an enjoyable experience. If I had to choose to see anyone in the world for my first concert I would say her name without hesitation. Even through the chaos within her life, I still listen to her music.

However, in any celebration or reunion the Merengue Tipico was the main one because it is for dancing and we really had a good time. The articles “The Buena Vista Social Club” by Tanya Katerí Hernandez and “Globalisation and the Tango” by Chris Goertzen and María Susana Azzi have both discussed the issue of the globalisation of Latin American music and how it is portrayed in foreign countries. Cuban son music emerged in the country during the 1910s and by 1930 had gained worldwide success. This style of music, a blend of Spanish canción, Spanish guitar and African rhythms and played in the clave rhythm, provided a key symbol of Afro-Cuban culture and identity while also heavily influencing other musicians and music genres. It provided Havana’s Afro-Cuban lower classes with a source of income and the chance to enter a previously European dominated market. Son was exported to the rest of the world during the 1930s and 1940s and became particularly popular in the United States, also providing the grounds for the creation of salsa music in the 1970s.
Another reason that my culture is important to me is because most of my family lives in the Dominican Republic and whenever I visit there, I have fun with our generous family. We have a many family reunions! My cousins come to me house in the D.R. and we party. We play music from the radio.
This really got people listening and earned her 8 Grammy nomination and 2 wins. This first album is automatically got people attention and many were listening to her, many of my friends and I included. Once you got a taste of what she was about everyone wanted more. Once Lady and Gaga made a name for herself, she never stopped producing more and more for people to love her for. She followed this album with “The Fame Monster” and “Born this Way” both hitting the charts at high levels.
