A good term for this is called “Social Desirability Bias” which means that you reply in a manner that is socially acceptable and desirable. The main purpose of this study is to allow the participants to describe the crimes in their own words instead of implying from observing participants. Honesty in these self-report studies help many different groups to better understand crime and criminal behavior. They use these reports to gather information to put them into statistics. The reports that are used are collected from the NIBRS (National Incident-Based Reporting System) and NCVS (National Crime Victimization Survey) and published by FBI in their yearly UCR ( Uniform Crime Report.)

The most accurate data can be from a witness because they have nothing to gain from telling lies. The victim may lie in order to try and gain sympathy or favor.
Some of the duties of law enforcement are to investigate law violations, gather evidence, make arrests, solve crimes, and then assist with the successful prosecution of suspects. Upon the law enforcement officer making an arrest the case is then presented to the court system. The district attorney office handles most cases of the criminal nature, besides some misdemeanor crimes such as minor traffic violations. In using certain components, our government is better able to administrate criminal justice processes successfully to the innocent and to the guilty. The Criminal Justice System The criminal justice system is here to assist in controlling crime and imposing punishment to those who disobey the law. Crime is defined as an “act or the commission of an act that is forbidden or the omission of a duty that is commanded by a public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law; especially: a gross violation of the law” (Schmallager, 2009). The criminal justice system is broken down into jurisdictions ,these jurisdictions, with considerations, are created by certain factors such as the city, county, state, federal or ,tribal government or military installation.

It depends on what the questions where and how they would affect me personally. If the questions where am I underage drinking or similar to that then I would answer truthfully.
Evidence of the crime scene is obtained, this would include photographs or an in person examining of the scene, a profile of the victim (including their pathology reports), witness statements and DNA analyses of the victim and the offender. The FBI profiler then draws up a classification for the offender based on the evidence obtained. The offender is categorised as either an “organised” or “disorganised” criminal. An organised criminal would is more methodical, feeling more in control of the situation than a disorganised criminal. For an organised criminal, there would be signs that the crime committed was pre-meditated and planned with minimal evidence left behind, they likely would have known the victim and if sexual assault did occur, it would have been while they were still alive.

The information is used as a tool to measure the effectiveness of prevention programs, ample coverage of police officers (strengths and weaknesses in their administration of policing efforts) in communities, legislation for rendering appropriate penalties, and sociologists to review the behaviors associated to specific crimes. There are many challenges to the proper integration of homeland security and law enforcement. Most of the major
oncern around the accuracy of data collected by the police for recorded crimes fuelled recognition within the police service that a more robust system for recording crime was needed. Hence the National Crime Recording Standard was developed and adopted by all forces. This, amongst other things, placed emphasis on victims’ feelings and sees recorded as crimes whatever victims feel or report as crimes. Similarly, an act of a multiple theft which would have previously been recorded as a single crime is now recorded as multiple crimes. The National Offences List1 defines all of those crimes which should be recorded by police and notified to the Home Office.
