Ismail Abdul Fattah Assignment 3 Cause Essay: Causes of Smoking Smoking of Teenagers It’s strange to say, when you are walking on a street and look left and right, you actually observe in your immediate vicinity teenagers holding corrupting cigarettes. You see smoke billowing up and polluting the fresh air, and try your best to avoid it either holding your nose or by quick walking. Unfortunately, most people are accustomed to seeing teenage smokers in every corner and street. Smoking of teenagers has three main causes; it depends on the social relations of family environment, peer relations and low-income areas. First of all, family environment is a main cause that has the biggest influence in shaping teenagers’ behavior. If the members of the immediate family or other distant relatives smoke, teenagers will be encouraged to imitate them. Sometimes it becomes a habit transferred from forbearers to grandchildren. For example, when the teenager sees his father smoking every day and sometimes more than one time during a day, he/she will probably think that it’s normal to smoke without knowing its bad consequences. Also there are some of parents that motivate their children to smoke. They believe that children should try everything and there is nothing hidden or forbidden; they want to raise their children on modern basis. Second, peer relations especially at school and with friends are one of the causes of smoking. Teenagers imitate each other due to peer pressure; they do many things in common and spend more time with each other than parents, so they have a strong influence on them. For example if one of them smokes he might motivate the others. Most of the teen's first cigarette usually comes from friends. Also, they may threaten each other with the man-hood; the one who smoke is the manliest. Bad perceptions will dominate their minds
