What are the causes of internal migration? Migration is the process of moving, either across an international border or within a country. It is the movement of a certain population, involving any kind of movement of people, length of time, and for whatever the causes may be. This will also include refugees, displaced, and uprooted people. For the purpose of this paper, internal migration will be looked at, along with the causes surrounding those who are migrating. Internal migration is the movement of individuals within a country or state. This may be from rural to rural, urban to rural or the most common, rural to an urban centre. There are many reasons as to why indigenous people move within their particular country and these will be discussed. Another type of displacement is the human kind. For a number of reasons, individuals and families are displaced by civil war in their country. People are forced to move because the area where they live is now unsafe because of the increase in violence. There are countries in Africa and South America where this happens more readily. These jobs are usually in the construction and service industry. Although, it may be low paying, it is a chance to begin a new life in which there is opportunity and a better way of living. Urban indigenous residents have some advantages over their rural counterparts, as they are used to working in cities and may be able to acquire skills wanted by urban employers. A rural worker can experience hardship in the way of drought or disease for their land and animals. This can be a hard way to live since a person is depending on the weather and conditions surrounding that for their way of life. Not all people are made for that type of work and moving to an urban centre will help expand your skills to help find a career that best suits that particular
