Poverty affects millions of people worldwide; some places more than others. But what exactly is poverty and what are the causes of it? According to Wikipedia, Poverty is the lack of basic human needs, such as clean and fresh water, nutrition, health care, education, clothing and shelter, because of the inability to afford them. This is also referred to as absolute poverty or destitution. About 1.7 billion people live in absolute poverty.

One of the main reasons for this opposition was the economic and social hardships Russia was going through particularly in the months after the October revolution. Food shortages plagued Russia due to problems of distribution, problems of inflation and problems of production. The railway system in Russia had virtually collapsed. Billions spent on weapons to kill people instead of keeping them safe.” (Ban Ki-Moon) The human rights issue addressed in this quote is one that the whole world is facing and has been facing for millennia.

I feel like it is a major issue in America and not enough is being done to help stop it. Food availability is something that goes at the top of the chain. If food is not available then hunger sets in, which results in not getting adequate nutrition. Even though that is a simple chain it causes a tremendous amount of health issues for many
