Some people are shy and by using substances such as drugs and alcohol can help them not be nervous to talk or socialize better. There are also many cons of substance abuse, if abused it can cause increased risk of cancer in the mouth, breast, among others. Substance abuse can also reduce nutrient absorption, lower inhibitions leading to high risk behaviors such as unprotected sex or drinking and driving. People also tend to do things they wouldn’t normally do in a sober environment, they can murder or assault somebody without even knowing what they have done or don’t remember. It can also make use have poor decision makings through misperceptions of our own
Addiction has severe negative consequences affecting the addict’s mental and physical well being. Addiction also has numerous allegations for the health of the public, because of substance abuse, addiction is now a major donor to many serious diseases and it can also result in violent behaviors. This article supports my stand point that addiction is a mental illness rather than a bad behavior and creates a solid argument on how addiction takes over the addict’s brain and is the main source of inappropriate behaviors. I can use these examples as reasons why I believe addiction is a chronic brain disease instead of a bad behavior in my research
The higher alcohol content in hard liquor was more effective for getting drunk yet it also took its toll on the population’s health. Prohibition also created a large amount of bootleggers and moonshiners that were producing home made alcohol that was not always safe to drink. People also tried to get alcohol from sources that were still available and legitimate such as alcohol that was produced for medical, industrial and ceremonial purposes. People even attempted to get alcohol by trying to filter the alcohol out of antifreeze. Many of these homemade alcohols contained much higher percentages of alcohol and they sometimes were unsafe to drink which led to several deaths during the prohibition.
For example, if you have a damaged liver, your liver will return automatically -and not gradually- to the level of damage it was at when you were drinking. Some people are lucky to halt the relapse quickly (a lapse), but any (re)lapse is a mortal danger, which at the very least causes psychological pain and at worst can lead to a path from which there is no return. Having said that, we have to face the reality that relapse is an ever-present threat and part of the general recovery process for the majority of us. Many alcoholics and addicts experience one or more relapses before achieving a lasting sobriety. A minority manage to have none at all.

Steroids are unhealthy and they damage internal body parts of people that use them. Using a steroid may severely jeopardize the health of its users. It can cause liver problems, which could in turn lead to liver failure, and causes chemical unbalances which bring about rage, and in turn can cause the user to be a threat to others around them. It has a list of side effects that harm many but is most dangerous to younger people. Steroid use in high schools is only continuing to increase.
One of the most toxic things that a young brain can encounter is a high level of blood alcohol. One of my friends who used to be a student in class died of drinking too much alcohol. It is actually an irresponsible action for both himself and his parents. Hence it can be seemed that people who drink alcohol at an early age are more likely to be playing a joke with their lives. Too much alcohol will also lead you to make bad judgments and loosen your inhibitions.
People who usually take Crystal Meth seek the pleasure from the chemical reaction in the brain and a hyper effect on the body systems. People who use Crystal Meth will experience hyper activity and won’t be able to properly sleep and will become lazy. One way of describing alcohol is to call it a “toxic drink” for the body. Alcohol is harmful to the human body, and even more harmful to young adults, whose bodies and minds have not fully matured to handle the effects of alcohol. The abuse of alcohol results in both physical and mental damages to humans. Damages include liver damage, addiction, and depression. “Also, lowering the drinking age would have dangerous long-term consequences: Early teen drinkers are not only more susceptible to alcoholism but to developing the disease earlier and more quickly than others” (Dean-Mooney).
