I considered a good writer to be anyone who could effectively convey a message to a reader. Since going through the first two units, I have learned that good writing is quite a bit more complicated. Author Keith Grant-Davie discussed how important to good writing it was to analyze your subject matter to understand who all of your possible audiences are and who you may be representing when writing your material, and to address all parties appropriately. If an author can do this effectively, I believe that it is a crucial part of becoming a good writer. Unit one also taught me to reevaluate how important certain priorities when it came to writing.
I’m not interested here in whether you thought the book was interesting or boring. I’m looking for an exploration of how convincing you found the book’s conclusions. How well did the author support his/her argument(s)? How did the book support, contradict, or complicate what you learned about the subject in lectures and textbook reading? I did not realize how easy it is to unintentionally use bias language. Specifically, careless use of pronouns, subject-verb agreement, using open-ended age definitions, or how the order of presentation of groups can show superiority over others is all examples of errors I commit in my writing. This was important because without the interest of the audience, the point you were trying to get across was nearly useless. The issue or message of the paper usually consisted of using the subject to try and convince an audience. This could be done through persuasion, explaining, narrating, or informing to an audience. Overall, the rhetorical triangle is important to writing because it gives you a clearer vision of the relationship between the speaker, audience, and issue at hand. With a good understanding of these relationships, it makes both your analysis of a story and your writing more
The body holds choosing strategies for development, description, narration, illustration, process analysis, comparison and contrast, casual analysis, definition, classification, and argumentation. Ending a writing brings all of the writers points together and gives the audience a satisfying experience, if done correctly. This is also where you want to restate your thesis statement and possibly suggest and solution for your original problem. The ending paragraph is also the writers last chance at getting their point across to the reader. You also want to leave your readers with something to think
This leads many students to assume that their audience is already familiar with most of the material. As a result, student writers often take shortcuts by failing to place information within its context, or by neglecting to define terms. Writing this way puts you at risk of providing insufficient information; when grading the essay the instructor is likely to assume that you are not familiar with the context or terms. One way to overcome this problem is to write your paper so that a general reader unfamiliar with the topic would be able to read and understand
