The United States does not have a caste system like in India and other countries. In the United States, anyone can be successful regardless of their surroundings and family background. Many people will say you are where you came from, but that is simply not true. A person who comes from a poor family can work hard and become just as successful as someone who comes from a rich family. There are certainly many advantages of coming from a rich or high class family, but with hard work and determination one can make a great and better life for themselves. Because of that I believe that the United states has a class system and we can choose to break away from that certain group we are placed in from birth. Caste systems are found in India and although they have been outlawed, many people still follow this strict lifestyle. Religion is one of the many examples of how the caste system works. People who follow a certain religion do not associate with others outside of that religion. They do not marry people or have friends who are of a different religion than them. The Caste system is made up of four different groups. At the top of the caste system were the Brahmin – the priests, teachers, and judges. Next came the Kshatriya , the warrior caste. The Vaisya caste were the farmers and merchants, and the Sudras, were craftworkers and laborers. A person born into one caste never changed castes or mixed with members of other castes. Caste members lived, ate, married, and worked with their own group. There were also the ones who were called the untouchables. They were the outcasts or people beyond the caste system. They were looked down on and were the ones who had the jobs others considered as polluting activities. These jobs included anything that involved ending a life, such as fishing.
