On October 12, 2000 the USS Cole was attacked by suicide terrorist of Al Qaeda killing American sailors and injuring others. Again, this should have placed more efforts from all parties regarding prevention of terrorist attacks, but it didn’t
Brittnie McGee 11/29/11 US History 142 “A Demonic Spirit” Have you ever wondered how a person could have such a demonic spirit? Why would someone have the desire to kill millions of innocent people? Did he ever have any remorse for any of his actions? How could he command his followers and be responsible for several terrorist attacks against the US when we were the country who originally had his back? Was he ever going to get tired of planning to cause destruction in major cities in the United States?
The president did this because he had important reasons. I believe the President actually made the right decision to drop the bombs. If he did not drop them, certain wars would be going on, rules and life would not be the same, and the world would be a different place. ----------------------- [i] Public Papers of the Presidents
This may be too soon to use but I believe that the events that has transpired since the Boston Marathon Bombing is a great current ethical dilemma. With events like this individual emotions take over and it can be hard to do the ethical things when your personal feelings of hurt, hate and the unknown are present. The nature of a dilemma in the case of the Boston Marathon Bombing is do we kill the suspects out of anger and because we can, or do we capture, arrest and let the arms of the justice system take over and predict the outcome. It would have been just as easy to shot and kill both suspects in this horrible event. And after learning that a law enforcement officer was gunned down is enough for an officer’s personal emotional feelings to take over and
They all fall within the definition we outlined in class, for example; the Oklahoma bombing by Timothy McVeigh falls within the second component we outlined as terrorism against civilian targets. I really had to read this section two or three times especially with the destroying of the abortion clinics by Rev. Michael Bray, and on some level I was understanding why he had committed the criminal act but as I thought about it, the destroying of the abortion clinics was more of a political objective then all religious which Bray tried to come
He also tells himself that he couldn’t have come up with such a brilliant scheme. Another remarkable thing we can read near the end of the story is that Aaron burns the diary in which he described him killing all of his colleagues. This can be explained by knowing that he didn’t sent the bomb, but wanted to be sentenced for it. If the police would find
What, it’s Our Fault Too? Most would agree that Osama bin Laden holds great responsibility for the execution of the September 11th attacks on the United States of America and that he deserves punishment for his crimes against humanity. In the attacks, he simultaneously slaughtered thousands of innocent people and caused the mental and emotional anguish of millions. Though Americans are quick to become defensive at the mention of the attacks, it is essential that we as Americans know why bin Laden and millions of others around the globe have come to hate our country. The question of today is “why are so many willing to risk or even sacrifice their lives to get at us?” (How Israeli Terr.
There was also a World Trade Center bombing that took place in 1993 that Osama claimed was his work but it was later discovered that he and his terrorist group Al Qaeda actually had nothing to do with the bombing. This was Osama’s first declaration of Jihad and when his rain of terror officially begun. He ordered the bombing of two United States Embassies in East Africa. Two hundred people were killed in these attacks including twelve Americans. In retaliation to these attacks that Al Qaeda carried out, U.S forces carried out air strikes on targets in Sudan and Afghanistan with success but did not achieve the ultimate goal of killing Osama in one of these attacks.
The Fire Bombing of Dresden: War Crime World War Two was fought in part to remove tyranny, genocide, and the killing of innocents by the evil Nazis. The fire bombing of Dresden in which some estimates say 100,000 people died, was only fighting evil with more evil. The Royal Air Force along with the United States Air Force could cite reasons for wanting to destroy the city. It could weaken morale, leave Germany in chaos or any number of other excuses, but it is difficult to fathom that anyone could consider these reasons as a just cause for the demolition of the historical city. How many more allied men would have died if they had not bombed Dresden is the question that they were to ask themselves.
Along with these treatments of Allied prisoners, the bombing of Pearl Harbor was also a huge factor in Truman’s decision. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a complete surprise to Americans, and it caused great damage on our naval and air forces. We received warnings of a possible attack on US soil, but weren’t prepared for it. If we were to warn the Japanese of our plan to drop a bomb if they did not surrender, there was the fear that they might move American prisoners into that area or even try to shoot down US bomber. We didn’t want any more horrendous causalities of Americans so our warning was very
