Kudler Fine Foods Frequent Shopper Program and Information Security Carlos Rivera BSA 310 March 19, 2012 Morris Polston Currently Kudler Fine Foods is creating a new frequent shopper program. Kudler fine foods are a local specialty food store located in San Diego with three locations in La Jolla, Del Mar and Encinitas. The company’s founder, Kathy Kudler was a former Vice-president of marketing for a defense contractor and these locations offer customers the finest in fresh produce, meats and sea foods, cheese and specialty products, wine and other domestic and imported products. This frequent shopper program will track customer purchases of individual customers and award loyalty points that the customers will then be able to redeem for gifts, specialty foods and other rewards made available with partnerships Kudlers has with other outside companies. When a customer swipes their card, the system is not only holding just credit card numbers. Those credit card numbers tie into addresses and phone numbers and most programs of this nature prompt the associate to ask for a phone number to track those sales at the POS (Point of Sale) machine the card is being swiped at. Threats to this information come in many forms; from employee’s (Internal threats) where “the greatest damages or losses are those carried out by insiders” (Turban, Volinino, & Sipior, 2011, Chapter 5, IT Security, Crime, Compliance, and Continuity) to web based threats like Phishing which is a “deceptive attempt to steal a person’s confidential information by pretending to be a legitimate organization” (Turban, et al, 2011, Chapter Chapter 5, IT Security, Crime, Compliance, and Continuity).
