Elizabeth Fritz B A 421 CASE STUDY: A Day in the Life This case study is a “real life” depiction of a project manager’s day of communication and responsibilities. Rachel spends much of her day collaborating with team members and other professionals in the scope of her current project. Utilizing different form of communication, Rachel juggles the difficult task of prioritizing and organizing all obtained information. Given the scenario outlined in the story, I think that Rachel was able to use her time wisely and effectively. Throughout the case, Rachel is managing the overall implementation of the Information Systems project. This means that she must be effectively communicating with all of those involved while making sure the project stats on schedule. When a problem occurs, it is clear that Rachel is effective in resolving the issue by listening, understanding, and, approaching the right person or department. Despite the overload of emails, meetings, and phone calls, Rachel takes time out of her day to socialize, eat, and relax. Some may view this as wasted time at the office; however, I think that this may be a necessary break for Rachel. This time allows her to retreat from the pressures of the project and mentally recharge for a fresh start. From this case, I can see that a project manager has many responsibilities and must excel in several managerial skills. First, the project manager must know how to effectively manage his or her time. This is important because projects are completed on a defined time schedule. The project manager must also have excellent communication and organization skills to complete the project successfully.
