My case study was over chapters 4 and 7. The title was Prelude to a Medical Error. In this case study Mrs. Bee is an elderly woman who was hospitalized after she had a bad fall. Mrs. Bee was lying in her bed after her morning physical therapy when she felt that she could not breathe. Then nurse Karing came in and asked what was wrong. She felt that her symptoms were the aftermath of an argument between Mrs. Bee and her husband. That previous night, Mrs. Bee had terrible spasms in her left calf and told nurse Karing right away. Nurse Karing proceeded to order a STAT venous Doppler X-ray to rule out thrombosis. She paged Dr. Cural to notify him that Mrs. Bee was having symptoms of thrombosis. Dr. Cural was upset that he was being bothered after a long day of work and shouted at the nurse, telling her to cancel the test and not to call back again. When nurse Karing got back to work the next day Mrs. Bee was having worse symptoms, so she ordered the test. Dr. Krisis came immediately to help stabilize Mrs. Bee. After that Dr. Hrisis said “someone must have not had time again to call the doctor yesterday to see if a venous Doppler was necessary”. After that he went on to say that nurse Karing did not do her job and ignored what the doctors told her and she need to do her job better. When the social worker tells the nurse and doctor that Mrs. Bee’s insurance will allow her to go to rehab for one week she is furious and states “it’s time for administration to hear about this one”. As my role in this case study I am going to be a chief administrator in the case. The major issue in this case is the health issues of Mrs. Bee. Her conditions are getting worse due to the hospital staff not getting along and not doing their jobs correctly. The secondary and other issues are the actions of Dr. Cural and Dr. Krisis. Dr. Cural was contacted by nurse Karing stating what Mrs.
