GO 3 September 2015 ------------------------------------------------- MD15-0172 Management Dynamics (MD-MBA) Elektra Products, Inc. – A Case Analysis Report The old-established company, Elektra Products, Inc., has faced a dilemma on how existing ways harmonize to new and innovative management. For the past years, Elektra has experienced challenges in their marketing strategies, innovative ways and productions, and human resource. Martin Griffin, the newly appointed CEO of the company, was entrusted to revive the fall of the company and sees empowerment as the solution to address this. His goals, under his new campaign, includes (1) employees getting more information about the company management and (2) collaborations of ideas among the employees. In Griffin’s hopes and intention to build a new structure for the management of company, the top manager has made the decision through strategies which involved long-term view. The top management created teams which will spearhead the new vision of the company. Looking at these goals, Griffin would be considered as a manager with a wide perspective and would want to build the foundations in his company. However, it is not how the employees perceived it. There is a resistance from the employees, as observed from the meeting with the middle managers – the department heads. From the given statements in the case, the employees were observed to have “actively seeking” other employment opportunities. Barbara Russell, who was quite reluctant had positivity to hear out the proposal. “Just another pile of corporate crap. One minute they try downsizing, the next reengineering. Then they dabble in restructuring. Now Martin wants to push empowerment.
