Course: Operations Management Major: International Business 2012-2013 1. What types of decisions must Chad Thomas make daily for his company’s operations to run effectively? Over the long run? In order to run the short term as well as the long term operations of a company, strategic planning and management are of high importance. If Chad wants his company to operate at the highest level and be successful, he will have to go over the strategies that he is using on a daily base in order to reach the company’s goals. Goals need to be set and followed and every little aspect of working towards getting the raw materials to the end stage where they are sold and paid for needs to be taken in consideration . Also it is very important to stay on top of how every little aspect within the company is being operated. Monitoring the employees, the manufacturing process and sales of the product and also the customer feedback therefore is also of high importance. 2. How did sales and marketing affect operation when they began to sell standard pieces to retail outlets? In the first case scenario, the decision to expand by also manufacturing a standard line of furniture resulted in an overall growth for the company. The name of the company grew in a positive way and sales steadily increased. Although the company took on the double of work when it came to the manufacturing process of the furniture, the company kept complying with a single market manufacturing process, besides this fact noting that the two products were in no way comparable, the company kept using the same equipment and the same craftspeople. Also the custom furniture line still continued to dominate sales with the consequence that this line was given the priority when trade-offs where scheduled.
