Casablanca Versus Ifrane Becoming a university student in a foreign city has given me the opportunity of living in two cities at the same time: Ifrane and Casablanca. Living in each city regularly has let me see many differences between them, but there are three main contrasts between them, which are the size of the cities, the life rhythm of each city, and the activities you can do in each city. The first and obvious difference is the size of each city. Casablanca is a coastal city which has 15 km of coast. With a population of over 5,500,000 and three hundred and twenty three km² of urban area, “Anfa” is Morocco's largest city and also the biggest city in the Maghreb. In Casablanca, there are 15000 taxis. The time it takes you to get from one place to another shows us how big it has become. In contrast, Ifrane is a town with a population of 13000 and has 65 km² of urban area. Although the city has grown a lot in the last years with the construction of Al Akhawayn University in 1995, it’s still a small town because The King Hassan II wanted to make it appear as a small European town. Ifrane has only few taxis because of the low population; almost all the small taxis are used by the university’s students. The second difference between the both cities is rhythm of life in each city. Casablanca has become a city in which its people are usually in a rat race and have a lot of things to do throughout the day. This can be seen by the amount of traffic in the city. Casablanca is a stressful city which people fear. On the other hand, Ifrane still remains quite a calm city where most people walk, take their time, and relax because it’s not a stressful city.
