Careers Essay - English Key Questions: 1. What are some personal requirements I would need to become a makeup artist? 2. What are some things that makeup artists might have to do? 3. What would be useful to help get into this job? Before the careers unit, I only had a fair idea of what I wanted to do as a future career. I wanted to be in forensics; things like that really held an interest with me after watching shows like CSI. Actually, I had more than one idea. I wanted to either be doing something involving animals, or something creative. After starting the careers research, I decided to rule out forensics, because in order to do that I would have to be pretty great at maths and sciences, and maths and science are not exactly my favourite subjects. I then decided that I would really love to pursue a creative career and put my creativity to good use. I carried out some research on different careers that sounded like they’d be creative an ‘me’. Singing sounded good, because I really enjoy doing that. But then I had a look into the beauty industry. I liked the sound of that. What are some personal requirements I would need to become a makeup artist? Makeup artists need to: have good knowledge of the products they use and how to apply them; knowledge of the latest styles and colours; artistic ability and an eye for colour; be understanding of their clients’ requirements and have good communication and people skills. Also, business and sales skills are important for makeup artists that are self employed. Makeup artists should be friendly and be able to relate well to people. They must be reliable, punctual, and honest. Makeup artists should also have a neat and tidy appearance. What are some things that makeup artists might have to do?
