I know how to recognize fallacies and can judge the validity and credibility of the source. The activities also help me realize my strengths and weaknesses when it comes to communicating. Communication is the key to any successful business. I now know how vital it is to have a clear understanding when communicating. When sending messages, I have to make sure it is able be decoded and seek feedback to ensure we are on the same level.
The competencies exercise revealed my top strengths to be leading, cooperating, coping with pressure, networking, taking initiative and innovating. I am someone who enjoys leading and developing others to achieve results. I can improve upon my critical thinking skills by knowing my strengths and accepting my weaknesses. Learning Outcomes 1.1 Individuals who have communication problems need support to enable them to express themselves effectively. It is therefore important for me, in my managerial role, to be aware of the individuals preferred method of communication and also to support the individual to use their preferred method. Individuals have the right to communicate through their chosen method and their choice should be acknowledged and respected by supporting them. The individual’s rights are particularly important when using specific communication methods and language because it’s their major way of communicating their needs and preferences. Communication is a basic human right.
Knowing your own strengths and weaknesses and those of your employees, taking the time to know your employees is vital for a strong and cohesive team environment and will enable you to be able to bring the best out of your team because you understand their strengths and weaknesses and you know the person. Being motivated, energised, focused, positive and loving what you do is a great example to lead by and I would ensure I always acted in a manner that reflected my values and work ethic and to be fair and firm in all my dealings, that is how I would measure my performance. There is so much more though to being an effective leader and good role model; you need to be able to set clear and defined personal and work goals, plans and activities that reflect the plans of your business and your own responsibilities and accountabilities. Learning what my strengths and weaknesses are will enable me to use those strengths in the field in which I will work and allow me to develop my weaknesses into strengths as well. Furthering my education is just another facet in my personal development and career plan. Because many careers that never before required degrees are now requiring at least an Associate’s degree, it is difficult to obtain a decent job without continued education. Although I am not currently enrolled in an Associate’s program, I’m hoping to continue my education past the program in which I am enrolled. Continuing education leads to marketability, job security, and personal enrichment.
The presence of a vision statement is vital as it effectively creates a culture within a business and acts as a benchmark to measure all the businesses decisions and actions. It also plays an important role in terms of continuously leading owners, managers and employees to achieve the initial purpose of the business. A vision statement may also be the constant drive and motivation towards ultimate business success. Once vision statements are created, owners can determine their goals and further break them down towards objectives which may be either tactical or operational. What do you think you could learn to become a more effective team member? Teamwork effectiveness is an important skill which contributes not only towards team growth but aids in personal growth. In order to be an effective team member I always tried to come prepared in order to effectively contribute towards the team meetings. I always tried to challenge ideas which promoted discussion and engaged everyone to contribute their point of views. This always helped in generating better ideas and always made our brainstorming sessions productive.
