Career Counseling Career counseling deals with one of the fundamental questions in people’s lives – “How would I like to live my life?” For some people this question can be easily resolved by themselves or with the support from friends or families. Yet, there are still people who struggles with this question more or less throughout their lives, possibly brought about by unsatisfying working conditions or by social developmental and structural changes. This is when an individual will seek for professional help. Career counseling is a process that will help clients understand himself and the working world in order to make career, educational, and life choices. The goal of career counseling is to support these clients in making informed decisions about their career development and path, as well as offer various tools that they can use, such as resumes, application and cover letters, to meet those goals. Hence, it is essential to note that it is more beneficial for career counseling to be conducted by a trained counselor, unlike vocational counseling. Professional career counselors can support people with career-related challenges in many ways. Through their expertise in career development and labor markets, they can put a person's qualification, experience, strengths and weaknesses in a broad perspective, taking into consideration their desired salary, hobbies and interests, location, current job market and educational possibilities. Through their counseling and teaching abilities, career counselors can additionally support people in gaining a better understanding of what really matters for them personally, how they can plan their careers individually, and assist them in making tough decisions.
