Explain cardiorespiratory efficiency as one of the components of fitness Cardiorespiratory efficiency is one of the components of fitness with which the body delivers oxygen and nutrients needed for muscular activity and transports waste products from the cells. 2. Discuss how it can be improved. Give specific examples. Activities such as running, bicycling, swimming, cross-country skiing, rowing, stair climbing, and jumping rope can be used to improve your cardiorespiratory system. 3. State the importance and list the benefits of having good cardiorespiratory fitness now and later on in life. To have a cardiorespiratory system in a good condition is extremely important because it can provide the following: • A stronger heart muscle ejects an increased amount of blood from the heart with every beat. • An increased number of red blood cells carry an increased amount of oxygen carrying hemoglobin. • An increased density of capillaries, the smallest and most numerous of blood vessels in the body. • An increased size and number of mitochondria. • Increased aerobic enzymes result in an enhanced ability to utilize oxygen. These benefits can be achieved and benefited from now and later in life. 4. Rate your cardiorespiratory fitness level according to the chart provided in class. My cardiorespiratory fitness level according to the chart that was provided is in a medium stage level. Many of the scores are in between and are not very high but not very low as well. 5. What will you do to improve and/or maintain your cardiorespiratory fitness level? Practicing or training is the way to improve anything and is the method I will use to improve my levels. Also, I will start slowly, slightly increasing each training session, and giving myself sufficient recovery time between training sessions. Before starting any exercise program, I will
