Carbohydrates Presentation Carbohydrates Presentation Stacie Confair SCI/241 May 20, 2012 Dr. Doug Beaudette Carbohydrates Presentation Abstract Carbohydrates are essential in maintaining a healthy diet because they provide the body with fuel to energize the body. Educating yourself with the benefits of healthy carbohydrates like whole wheat grains and beans will provide the body with a slow burn and store complex carbohydrates instead of filling up on simple carbohydrates like cookies and pies that will burn quickly raising blood sugar levels high and then crashing low causing a person to feel tired and sluggish. Blood sugar levels are important to maintaining a healthy body or one may develop diabetes or another disorder linked to carbohydrates. Maintaining a healthy, balanced diet along with exercise is essential to maintaining a healthy body. Carbohydrates Presentation Carbohydrates provide our body with the fuel it needs to be active and contribute to one’s organs care so they function properly. Carbohydrates come in a wide variety of forms like sugars, fiber, and starches. They are in an abundance of foods like spaghetti, milk, popcorn, cherry pie, breads, and beans. The basic building block of every carbohydrate is a sugar molecule, a simple union of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen (Willett, 2012). Our bodies use carbohydrates to make glucose that we can either use immediately or store in the liver and muscles to burn later. If you do not take in a healthy amount of carbohydrates and only eat poor carbohydrates it can fluxuate the blood sugar level in the body leaving you feel irritable and tired. Carbohydrates are grouped into two groups consisting of simple and complex carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates are sugars either refined or natural in form.
