3.05 Hear What I Say! Jared T. Falk The Morality and Justice of Capital Punishment (Speech MLA Format) Why, I ask you should the death penalty be abolished completely from our society? Is capital punishment not justified when the life of an innocent human being is taken by another? Every single one of us grew up under a rule, whether it was administered in schooling, our parents, or church we were all taught to treat others how we wish to be treated. I believe that capital punishment honors life, in the sense that our justice system administers the strongest penalty possible on those convicted of taking the life of another. Theft sums up crime in the sense that committing a crime is some form of theft, whether it be shoplifting or the theft of personal property or homicide, the theft of an innocent persons right to live. Much of our nation’s judicial framework crafted by our founding fathers carries religious implications and symbolism. We have held strong as “One Nation under God” for centuries on this basis. No matter what religious belief or background we individually live by, we can all agree the taking of another’s life is immoral and malevolent. As “But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.” (Exodus 21: 23-25) (America is the cultural melting pot of the world, and because of this not one religion will be serious implemented within our justice system. However the verse above carries moral value within it; Is the taking of an innocent life justifiable under any circumstance? If you believe it is not, than what justifies the right for a convicted murderer to live onward while a mother grieves the loss of her child.
