Wynter Welburn Campus sexual assault My topic for this paper will about the high number of students who may experience sexual assault on campus. I’ve always been interested in this topic because of the fact that it’s not taken as serious as it should be. People who usually experience these types of incidents are scared to come forward because they may feel unsafe on campus and feel as no one will help them. I feel as, if this situation was taken more serious, more people would come forward or even numbers of sexually assaulted students will decrease. I also believe this may be an issue of why students may not want to live on campus or even attend college because of the fear they face as they travel on campus. While researching this topic I found an article that may be helpful to students in case of an sexual assault. In the scholarly article, "Administrators' Perceptions of College Campus Protocols, Response, and Student Prevention Efforts for Sexual Assault", by Angela F. Amar, Tania D. Strout, Somatra Simpson, Maria Cardiello and Sania Beckford; show the way people who do and do not come forward about their sexual assault experiences deal with it in the real world. By sampling over 1000 campus administrators they thought of a way to come up with sexual assault policies and procedures for students who may experience this devastating trauma. Many students experience sexual assault while living on a campus institution. Once this happens, this puts fear in many students who live on campus hearts because they begin to get scared of being alone at night and don’t feel safe on their own campus. Sexual assault is "any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the recipient and falls under the definition of sexual activities as forced sexual intercourse, forcible sodomy, child molestation, incest, fondling and attempted rape.” I
