Campus Description Thunder Kat Elementary is located in the Northeast area of El Paso, Texas. This campus has been educating students since 1969, making it the second oldest elementary school in the Precious Independent School District, in the city of El Paso, Texas. Upon analysis of the 2013-2014 Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) report, the campus is considered a Title I school with 95% of the 629 students at Thunder Kat Elementary are economically disadvantaged, meaning they qualify for free or reduced lunch. A Title I school is a school that collects extra financial assistance from the government in order to better meet the needs of educationally at-risk students. Government funding of Title I schools is targeted at assisting schools in closing the gap between low and high performing schools. 57.2% of students are English Language Learners (ELL). The ethnic diversity at Thunder Kat Elementary is low due to the fact that 99% of the students are reported to be Hispanic. Thunder Kat Elementary met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 2013-2014 school year (AEIS 2013-2014).
