If I build a homemade catapult, and calculate the initial velocity, time of flight, displacement, parabolic trajectory, maximum height as well as range, then I will be able to predict the impact point because of the laws of ballistics and motions of two dimensions. The concept of projectile motion is introduced to to us in our everyday lives. Through life experiences such as playing sports, we witness projectile motions. Ben though we may not understand the physics involved in this motion, it is an apparent motion seen everyday. Projectile motion applies to most sports- many sports involve throwing a ball or some other object. Our bodies act as projectiles in high jumps, long jumps, gymnastics, figure skating etc. understanding motion of projectile may help an athlete better their skills. Understanding the projectile motion is very relevant in engineering. Engineers must use the principles of projectile motion to predict the outcomes of the projectiles. studying and understanding the motion of projectiles is relevant to understanding real world situations. An object shot through the air at a certain speed and subjected only to the constant acceleration of gravity is called a projectile. A projectile can be anything such as bullets, rocks, footballs, basketballs thrown into hoops, or even a droplets of water. After an object(projectile) is launched, there are several forces exerted on the projectile. The types of forces exerted on the projectile vary depending on the object that is projected. No matter what the object is- assuming that the projectile
