The opposite of this urge would be to not have any pets at all. One could desensitize themselves to the joy and love an animal could bring and not want to own one at all. This also compounds the Humane Society of Southern Arizona’s problem because that is one less potential home for a homeless pet. The Humane Society of Southern Arizona has taken a stance in the middle ground. It advocates responsible pet ownership.
Medical research or product testing could no longer be performed on animals. Also animals could no longer be hunted. This leaves us back to the problem at hand since everyone cannot agree on either choice. At this point we have met in the middle saying that we will treat animal as humane as we can. We will not make them suffer long painful deaths.
How is it that humans can test on animals, while the animals feel everything that humans feel? It shouldn’t be okay to test on animals because they have the same pain tolerance as humans do. The testing on animals is dangerous and it is harming the animals; it is cruel to the animals by keeping the animals locked up in cages, humans use the animals for testing the products that the humans use for the use of humans only, and it is unfair to the animals by keeping them in the lab and not letting the animals run around. Humans shouldn’t be able to test on animals. The humans that say testing on animals helps the United States with the problems that are going on and make sure the product is safe to use so it can be tested on animals to see if it will harm the humans before the use.
If more people did not rely so much on emotions and relied more on intelligence, then problems like this would not arise. Despite groups’ protests, there have been no laws established in banning rodeo in the United States because of lack of evidence in the immoral treatment of animals with which rodeos are accused. Rodeo is not a sport that supports the cruelty of animals. Research shows there are many rules, regulations and even dedicated veterinarians put into place to safeguard the wellbeing of the animals. Organizations and people who protest rodeo accuse “rodeo thugs” of partaking in animal abuse.
He does make a convincing case but he compares animal liberation with three other liberation movements. Singer tells us that animals do communicate with one another but since we do not speak the same language it is more difficult for us to understand and we cannot assume anything. “Other animals may communicate with each other, but not in the way we do.” (para. 13). He does convince me that there is an issue with us assuming things for the nonhumans because we do not know what they want.
Opposition Arguments to Different Narrowed Positions 1. Not everyone should have to be a vegetarian for the fact that animals can feel pain, but they should not have the same rights as humans. Animals are part of our food chain. They are not capable of being more than what they are. Animals do not have the ability to speak, have a thought process that can be communicated nor do they understand the human civilization.
You have to protect other people, property, or other people’s pets from your own pets. There’s another responsibility that not all pet owners think about. That responsibility would be spaying or neutering, or “altering” your pet. What does “altering” you pet mean? Simply put, it means taking your pet to the vet for a quick, fairly inexpensive surgery that will prevent your pet from ever becoming a parent.
The Puppy Mill Plague The breeding and living conditions in puppy mills are ethically wrong, and stronger legislation is needed to ensure the protection of dogs that are being bred and raised for human companionship. Dogs are bred at a greater frequency than they naturally should be, which creates health problems for both the mothers and their offspring. Housing conditions at puppy mills are almost unilaterally overcrowded, and dogs may live outdoors entirely exposed to the elements. Dogs that come from puppy mills often experience social problems. Because of the cruelty that prevails at puppy mills across the country, animal rights groups work diligently to promote new legislation the ban inhumane practices at puppy mills.
The people in solitary confinement don’t deserve to be treated like a dog. That is exactly how they feel in solitary confinement. And if they were to crack, or “act out”, that in return can land them more time in prison. How do you think that makes the inmates feel? Like there is no way out.
They live not to be used by scientists for experimentation, but to stabilize the ecosystem. Therefore, animals should not be used in scientific experiments. Animals being used for scientific experimentation is cruel and inhumane as animals feel pain and fear just as humans do. Humans may think that they are not considered as animals, but humans are the largest populated animals in the animal kingdom. This indicates that humans and animals both have equal rights and responsibilities.
