I will conduct an oral interview with Alvar Núñez Cabeza De Vaca. 1. What is your name? Hola! My name is Alvar Núñez Cabeza De Vaca. My family were originally peasants and they called themselves Alhaja until after the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa on July 11 of 1212, when they were ennoble for service that contributed to an important victory against the Moors. One of the Alhajas informed the Christians of a mountains pass by which the position of the Arabs could be turned, and indicated the entrance by placing the skull of a cow near it. Since then our last name was change to Cabeza de Vaca. 2. Where were you born and when? I was born into a distinguished family in Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, Spain. My dates of birth and death are uncertain but it is estimated that I was born in 1490 and die on 1557. 3.…show more content…
Did you do any thing to support women´s rights, if yes what did you do? No, I did not do anything to support women´s rights. I was trying to survive at I land that I did not knew. 14. What role did religion play in your life? I was Catholic and I respected all the rules and was a good Christian but religion really did not affect my life. I did serve to the Spanish crown that was catholic but I was more into the gold and power. 15. What inspired you to do the things you did? At first I did it because of the power and the gold but later I think that survival inspired me to do what I did. My books reveal what I went through and explain the feeling that the indigenous gained inside me. I think that after a while the power and the gold were not important anymore. 16. Did the average person see you as a hero or a villain? Hero is not the right world to describe myself. I did help the indigenous against some cruel Spaniards and for that I was set prisoner back in Spain. Some hate me because I showed more sympathetic with the natives, and other think that generous attitude toward the native tribes made me a good
