Calyx and Corolla Calyx and Corolla succeeded by launching a unique system of selling flowers by mail and using Federal Express to link the flower growers directly with the customers. Indeed, C&C differentiated itself by distributing efficiently fresher flowers that last longer accompanied with really competitive prices as it achieved to seriously diminish intermediary commissions and extra fees. Among the aforementioned innovative initiatives C&C as a customer-oriented company introduced gift programs (ex. year of Orchids) and designed particularly alluring catalogues in order to meet the special needs of potential clients (ex. different occasions and categories). On the one hand, strengths such as the niche market, the high delivery speed even on Saturdays, the competitive prices, fresher flowers, the high growth and profitability (exhibit 1), and the effectiveness of the experienced leadership team are incredibly valuable. On the other hand, C&C depends too much on Fed Ex for the perishable products as a result Fed Ex’s problems can easily reflect on C&C (ex. Strike). Also, C&C highly depends on weather conditions that are nearly impossible to control. Furthermore, the company is not able to control the quality of the products before they arrive at a customer. Moreover, the inability of the company to deliver flowers on Sundays and holidays is also an issue. Therefore, It would have been beneficial for the leadership team to expand and strengthen relationships with suppliers at locations with more stable climate conditions, to forecast effectively sales during peak seasons, to control the quality of all products, to investigate partnerships with more delivery companies and of course use media, press, digital marketing as tools more consistently in order to promote the company especially during seasons with lower sales (ex. boost special
