The students will be conducting research in a small group setting on some basic facts about the Navajo Indians and presenting their findings to the class when they are done. I will be utilizing a KWL chart and a graphic organizer in the lesson for students to structure their learning and to add any background knowledge they may have on Navajo Indians. The lesson begins with starting a KWL
“I hate to say there are classes, but it’s just that people are more comfortable with people of like backgrounds” this is an excerpt taken from the article which helps define the rhyme to the reason of classes. Its not that classes were developed to make people feel better or worse about themselves. People need people, and people get along best with people who are similar to themselves. In the short poem by Jane yolen in regards to Grant woods famous picture American Gothic, she says “Do not become a farmer counting crows. As if the number of the herd defines you.
This motif also appears on the next person who influences Siddhartha. Siddhartha’s inner voice leads him to Samsara and to Kamala after he leaves the Buddha. Kamala represents a deviation from the path of enlightenment, yet a significant step in Siddhartha’s journey. This is why Kamala does not wear the smile of enlightenment, but uses flirtatious smiles and laughs to teach Siddhartha. On their first meeting, “Kamala smiled and played with her fan… and thereupon Kamala laughed aloud” (Hesse 44).

When Janie meets Tea Cake, a poor and adventurous worker, she knows that he is seen as an undesirable and unsuitable match for her: “Janie, everybody’s talkin’ bout how Tea Cake is draggin you round tuh places you ain’t used tuh” (112). Knowing that people saw Tea Cake as an incompatible match did not stop Janie from loving him. Janie understood societies view of him, but did not allow this to stop her from trying to find true love. Through Tea Cake, Janie learned that real love is feeling appreciated and truly desired, and that her past relationships were not love: “Tea Cake love me in blue, so Ah wears it. Jody ain’t never in his life picked out no color for me”(112).
Batesian Mimicry: Examples in Nature Batesian mimicry is defined by Tim Walker as “the protective resemblance in appearance of a harmless species to a dangerous species, which is usually avoided by predators” (Butterflies and Bad Taste). The word Batesian comes from the name Bates, and more specifically, Henry Bates. After observing butterflies in the Amazon in the late 1800’s, Bates came up with a theory. He stated that some organisms will mimic another (usually more successful) organism, by looking similar. (O’Leary).
A simple choice like that can make a total difference in whether they really learned something or if they cheated themselves. I believe the students can decide if they want to succeed, and a lot of times after graduating high school they might become more mature and realize education is the key and be behind like they did in high school. Daniel Bruno's examples in the paper were very insightful. They gave you a better understanding of what he was talking about, rather than having to guess. His example of Thomas Jefferson's quote was a very good example because Thomas Jefferson is a very inspirational figure for the U.S. and people will take his words to heart.
At first, he is enchanted by the beautiful Erica, with whom he attempts to pursue a romantic relationship; likewise, he is enticed by the career and status opportunities that elite valuation firm Underwood Samson offers. However, Changez later realises that America is not what he first imagined. As his respect for his migrant country deteriorates, so too does his relationships with Underwood Samson and Erica. Changez was “one of only two Pakistanis in (his) class, two from a population of over 100 million souls”. When changez graduates from Princeton University and secures a job at underwood Samson he seems to be pleased and excited with his new life and opportunities he has been given.
The other advantage is that American universities provide students with actual working skills and experience for the opportunity. Chinese universities have two big benefits: one is the Chinese universities offer a very strong social cohesion; four years of campus life that lets the whole class form a very close relationship with each other. The second is the academic advantage. Chinese university students focus on their own academic research, so Chinese students will more easily be experts in their own professional field, especially natural science students (Davnie). The American universities’ disadvantages also are obvious.
