Abstract Evidently, futile corporate governance frameworks in the banking sector have been proved to be the main contributors to a number of financial crises, some of which have hit the world recently. Thus, there is a dire need to institute changes in this sector before any stability could be attained. This paper looks into ways in which corporate governance has increased the effectiveness of bank management in the UK. Specifically, it looks into main areas that need reforms including transparency issues, risk management, and the role of the board among many more others. It then suggests and recommends new guidance and regulations expected to institute the foundations for a novel financial market order. The paper then goes ahead to distinguish the role played by various bank’s stakeholders. The role played by the financial regulation in enhancing the development of corporate governance approaches in the UK as well as the rest of Europe has turned out to be a critical policy issue despite receiving little interest in literature. At the moment, most of the research work on corporate governance has dealt with issues that affect firms and companies in the nonfinancial sphere.
