Business Ethics Reflection

During the course of your lifetime you will be faced with ethical dilemmas in your personal life and in your professional life as well. In 2009 I was faced with a very challenging ethical dilemma at my job Francesca’s Collections and I felt as though I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. There was a very close friend of mine who was also my co-worker and I found out that she was stealing hundreds of dollars in merchandise from the store. If that were not bad enough on its own my birthday present from her that year was stolen merchandise from the store. I also witnessed her and another co-worker of mine snorting cocaine in the back room of the store when they should have been working. I was very unsure of that I should do because she was a friend of mine and I did not want her to lose her job but, I did not want her to continue stealing from the company and doing drugs at work either. The relationship among virtue, values, and moral concepts in my ethical dilemma are one in the same. Virtue is more or less the companies mission statement and/ or the way in which they thing about certain things. The company I was working for was completely against theft both internally and externally, in fact if a customer were caught stealing from us we would pursue the case and press charges against them. We were also a drug-free work place as well and there was always a zero tolerance for this, these concepts were made very clear in all of the new hire paper work. Values and moral concepts go hand in hand for me as I do not believe for any reason at all you should ever steal from anyone and anything worth having is worth working for. When I received my birthday gift from my good friend/ co-worker I did not realize at the time that these were stolen goods from our store, but as soon as I did put two and two together I was appalled. Society this day and age pressures people
