Thomas started out as a curious young boy who was infatuated with machines, and other laws of the world. He always tried to know how everything worked. As Thomas grew, he became an inventor, and either tried to make something that one could not, or would invent something on his one. Due to the fact that Thomas Edison may have borrowed some ideas from someone else, some people believe that Thomas may not be worthy to be on Mount Rushmore. However, he had earned over 1,093 U.S. patents (a government authority to sell an invention for a period of time), and simply took a step further with the borrowed ideas, making it possible for the invention to be a success.
After reading all the articles and doing further research on Henry Ford, I believe he is a “Captain of Industry”. He was an innovator and very smart man. It seemed to me he didn’t just care about making money. After all he was the first to implement the $5 a day wage. This forced other companies to raise their pay rate, and helped get the economy going.
In the era following the Civil War, Industrialization had many leaders. These leaders achieved the great growth of the economy and industry of the United Sates, leading the United States to become the leading industrial power in the world. Many historians question how honest these men were with their actions, we critique them because of the way they distributed their fortunes. It is true; many of these industrial leaders did cause harm socially, creating barriers and many competitions nationwide. They are called “industrial statesmen” for the great economic power they helped America become.
He is one of the big reasons that the United States has a middle working class because of his great generosity for his workers. Ford could have been anyone. He proved that small ideas from a know nothing farm boy, that made some mistakes along the way but was persistent, could change the entire course of the world for the better, something Ford Motor company continues to achieve today. What a wonderful example Henry Ford was in achieving the American Dream and tried hard to engrave that mindset into the peoples of the United States. (2) The culture developed by the founders especially CEO Steve Jobs, could be defined as controlled dreamers, officially they thought of themselves as "Dreamers and Believers". A good example of the controlled part of that statement is best illustrated by Apple's universally acclaimed practices (3) a) Accountability - everyone is accountable for their actions. b) Hire the best - experts who can work as part of a cross-functional team c) Consistency - Simple products, intuitive and engaging d) Excellence above revenues - back the customer from beginning to end, revenue will naturally follow e) Treat employees well – loyalty is generated when the employee feels that the company cares about them. Two ways Apple attempted to accomplish this it through the Pioneering telecommuting and nap rooms. What is the difference between leadership and management? Leadership teams provide the overall direction for a company or organization, and the management team is responsible for the execution of the corporate vision, direction and mission by the operations staff members. Being that Chubb is an evolving global insurance carrier, their management approach is now multi-tiered; whereas, pre 2007, the company maintained a single focus – bureaucratic control. Chubb has always been considered a leader regarding their claim service and product offerings; however, their style of leadership left much to be desired per several members of their staff. Chubb always prided itself on being a leader; and with this aggressive approach comes a narrowly focused, narrowly placed management team that many characterized as “top heavy.” Within their continental claim service centers, the organizational structure was as follows: Branch Manager, Branch Claim Manager, Department Managers, Regional Managers, Supervisors and Claim Examiners.
This book is a great resource for my paper because it supports that leaders grow their employees and make them happy.
