B Burying Your Life ‘Burying Your Life’ is a short story by Harkiran Dhindsa, published in 2010. In the story we get introduced to a family that is gradually falling apart. The married couple Rahul and Sarah lives with their son Tom in London. Rahul is desperately trying to dig a hole in their back yard, for their beloved family cat, George, who had recently passed away. But he is having a hard time not just because the ground is solid, but because of the dilemmas between him ad his wife. Sarah has decided to take Tom to her parents, for at trial separation. So she could have some time to think everything through. Rahul doesn’t really approve of this because he doesn’t want the final recollection that his son leaves with, to be the burial of George. Additionally he is also hoping that Sarah might change her mind, if she got to spend another day as a family. The ending, summons the family for the burial of their cat, for them to say their final goodbyes. Rahul is a marvelous family man, which comes from his upbringing and the way they live in the Indian culture. Likewise he is also an exceptional father and husband. His wife Sarah and him have been married 9 years and have recently come across some marital problems. Tom and Sarah are very important to Rahul and he doesn’t want them to leave for Yorkshire. “Good old Rahul, always reliable, he knows himself to be, always can be depended upon – home on time from work at least three days a week to eat with his son.”(p. 11, l. 112) Rahul is a quiet and patient man and it shows constantly in his way of living. He is having a hard time trying to keep them from leaving. He always sees the good in people, like the way he sees his wife. “Her hair bounces with each step, the sunlight brightening its faded blondness and she looks casually pretty…” (p. 8, l. 10) Even though Sarah keeps changing her mind about
