BURJ KHALIFA INTRODUCTION Burj Khalifa is not only the tallest building in the world but it is also ranked above the CN Tower as it is the tallest free-standing structure in the world. The total cost for constructing this Skyscraper was US $1.5 billion. The developers are Emaar Properties and it is designed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill. According to the statistics, Burj Khalifa has more than 160 stories, it is the tallest building, it is the tallest free standing structure, it has the highest number of stories, it has highest occupied floor, it has highest outdoor observation deck, it has elevator with the longest travel distance, and it has the tallest service elevator in the world. It would be an honor for any designer to be part of something that is ranked as number one in the world for any reason. Burj Khalifa was awarded the global leader in creating ultra-tall structures and this honor was given to the designers. The once in a life time opportunity of designing the tallest free-standing structure in the world was given to the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP with Adrian Smith FAIA, RIBA, consulting partner. DESIGN/TECHNOLOGY Architecture It is extremely important to have the best design, architecture layout, equipment, and technology before constructing anything. If any of the following tends to be weak or tends to fail, this will result in unwanted outcomes. This can be extremely dangerous and therefore it is compulsory to plan everything that needs to be done before putting anything into action. A lot of planning and consulting was done before starting the construction of Burj Khalifa. In order to check the effectiveness of the structure systems for the safety, as it is the tallest building in the world, it was mandatory to check and confirm the designs.
