There is encircled by a foot path around the lake, and it has many benches, pavilions, and alcoves that inviting you stop and smell the abundant roses. You can see the colorful flowers in the two sides of path; it makes you so cheerful.
This is the only part of the excerpt where Crystal tries to attach on to his audiences emotions. In the quote, Crystal uses the words “Global Village” because they are filled with feelings of friendship and world peace. These feelings are very important because they make the reader feel a connection to Crystal’s argument. The writer also provides an example of how he personally can connect with people all over the world. Crystal talks about how “It is just as easy for me to send a message from my house in the small town of Holyhead, North Wales, to a friend in Washington as it is to get the same message to someone living just a few streets away from me.” (358).
Rick Coleman Jon Frederick English 101 30 October 2012 Thoughts on “Greasy Lake” While not being my favorite genre of reading material, “Greasy Lake” was a very descriptive and well thought out story. One that keeps the reader drawn in with events that are very slow to climax. The reader is told in the first paragraph about the character of the adolescence of the era, the clothes they wore, the cocktails of choice and even the preferred authors of the day. We are told in great detail of how they entertain themselves and of the things they like to do. Things such as cruising to their favorite parking spot called “Greasy Lake”.
Some of them do it just for pleasure and others for financial support in the short term. However, they tried to be anonymous to protect their respectability. Coney Island was used for traditional working-class excursions and outings. However, they slowly rejected Victorian ideas and started to follow a new expressive culture. Coney Island was not just a place for fun and games it was also a social gathering place for the summer just like dance halls were for the winter.
The consumer ethos is taking over our universities and younger generations in general. In my experience people seem to be less likely now more than ever to challenge their own mind set and actually learn anything other than what they feel like they should. I personally gather information from everything I interact with and use that information to update myself. It seems that most people are against rather than for this type of interaction. The outward attitude of “I am too busy, too important and too jaded to care.” comes across quite frequently in my interactions with people.
Stewart wakes the morning after and instead of worrying, he goes fishing and the others soon join in, it isn’t until the next day that they head back and report the body. The surroundings influenced Stewart getting him to not worry or stress about the pressures he would normal feel back in Jindabyne. Jindabyne is a town of beauty, the glasslike lake, the vast, expansive plains and the lush, shadowy forests surrounding it. But just like Claire and Stewart we take in so much from our environment that influences how we behave and how we feel. Just think, if you went to a different school or dropped out of school all together you would be a different

By allowing the use of Soma, the citizen can completely drown personal sorrows and find an escape from reality. A citizen would be told “take a holiday from reality whenever you like, and come back without so much as a headache or a mythology” (Huxley, 37). By taking this drug, the population can feel better and create a positive feeling to the ruling power that supply’s their happiness. The government holds control over the apathetic and one-minded population. Stability was practically assured within the population (Huxley, 38).
Instruct the family to be more positive. Try to see the good in what is happening. This will help deal with the stress easier. Make family time to do something fun and forget about other problems for example game night, sundae night, etc. Family time does not need to be an expensive day at a park or zoo but time spent laughing and talking.
