British influence on the American pop culture a.k.a. British Invasion. American pop culture is well known in the world as it was wide spread during the second half of the twentieth century. It’s really difficult to imagine our life without McDonalds in the malls, rock and roll on the radio and jeans to buy in any store. Concerning American influence around the world it’s hard not to wonder if it was also effected by other cultures. Taking into account that The U.S. has a multi-ethic society and is often called “melting-pot”, though now the term “salad bowl” is used more, there are many cultural communities which influence can be traced in the American history. Thought there is a country that has not only dominated United States for years but also had a great effect on formation of it’s mentality – and the name of it is Great Britain. Since the first settlers from “May Flower” colonized the continent and till nowadays these two countries have been closely connected, sharing not only the language but cultural traditions and trends. However one of the most resent and interesting parts of British influence on American culture can be find in 60s is known as “British Invasion”. The term itself appeared in 1964 as the reporter Walter Cronkite was covering the Beatles arrival in the US. The story behind it says that the Beatles arrived in New York on February 7, 1964. It was a school day, but Capitol Records made sure that there would be a crowd at the airport by “leaking” the Beatles schedule to New York radio stations. About 3,000 teenagers skipped school that day so they could be at the airport when the Beatles arrived.CBS covered the story and, as they showed footage of the Beatles leaving the plane, Walter Cronkite said, “The British invasion this time goes by the code name Beatlemania. D-Day has been common knowledge for months, and this was the day.” The group
