Breast feeding Vs Bottle feeding By Tona Piazzola Are you pregnant? You just have a baby? You have heard people say "are you going to breast feed or bottle feed?" This paper will give you the information you need to make a good decision. Woman breastfeeding was seen as far back in history as 1 to 800 A.D. The Moche people made ceramic figures of woman breastfeeding. However during that same time noble woman thought breastfeeding was benieth them so they employed "wet nurses" to come in and breast feed their babies. This practice was used until the eighteenth century when a law was passed that infants had to be breastfed by their own mothers. Mother's milk was considered a miracle fluid which could cure people and give wisdom. Breastfeeding in the Western world declined significantily from the late 1800s to the 1960s. By the 1950s, the predominant attitude to breastfeeding was that is was something practiced by the uneducated and the lower classes. The practice was consider old-fashion and "a little disgusting" for those who could not afford infant formula. By the 1980 and 90s people attitudes changed about the importance of breastfeeding. Laws were passed to support mothers who wanted to breastfeed. Experts tell new mothers that breastfeeding is better for their new babies. It protects from them illness, allergies and chronic illnesses. There are many studies about the benifits of breastfeeding: That babies that are breastfed have a higher IQ., Babies have less chance for SIDS, there are also studies that show that breastfeeding lowers the changes of obesity.
