Eyris Segers BBM 315 January 11th, 2013 Branson Mini Case 1. I would definitely describe Branson as being a leader, hands down. He has overcome many challenges and decided to make his misfortunes as an advantage. He started his entrepreneurship when he was just a teenager coming up with his own magazine and came up with the idea to offer mail order subscription for records which prompted him to bring to fruition his record label, Virgin Records. One idea leads to another with an airline, bridal service, and other innovative services. 2. The relationship between Branson and his followers is amazing. He highly encourages his staff to let their creative juices flow and feel free to come to him with any ideas they may have. He realizes that his team fuels the success of this business ventures and is a great supporter of any amazing idea because he wants people to “rise to the level of their dreams.” 3. Branson disproved many myths that many believed to be true about leaders. For one, it is perceived that leaders are charismatic and have more education than others which the case with him was not really so. He was dyslexic but that did not stop him from pursuing various business ventures. Another myth he busted was of him having the title of being a leader. In all actuality, his followers are just as much leaders as he is. He encourages creative thinking and is more of a supporter of new ideas than a creator of them. Also, just because he is a leader does not mean that coercion, manipulation has to take place in order for duties to be executed. He is a very relaxed and laid back individual who does not have regular board meetings or a huge corporation whereas many organizations do.
