Notes about the Midterm Examination – JOUR3614, Fall 2014 1. The midterm examination will be on Thursday, October 9, in the usual classroom (155 Nicholson) and it will cover all lectures through Tuesday, October 7, and all required readings listed in the syllabus through Week Five. It will consist of one broad (longer) essay question and one narrower (shorter) essay question. You will be required to answer both kinds of questions (one broad question and one shorter essay question), but you will have some choice within those types. Note that you will not be able to choose questions only from readings or only on lectures and that you will need to answer all parts of a question and provide accurate, pertinent information (such as examples)
The tests will have roughly 40-50 questions, and be multiple-choice. They will also be delivered via Blackboard. We will have a real-time chat, for anyone who wants it, two days before each test where I can answer your questions. I can also answer questions via email anytime. Homework: Each week students will be expected to read the essays to be covered. In addition, a response paper of approximately 250 words based on your reaction to one of the essays in the chapter must be submitted. A response paper is due approximately once a week, but you must submit your response paper prior to the discussion of the essay in class. Students are expected to bring a clean copy of the draft they are working on to class on the date a draft is due.
