Bottlenecks in a Process High process performance is often the main focus for any organization. Therefore, persons continually search for methods to enhance their processes and boost their efficiency. Those wanting to enhance the efficiencies of these processes must classify and remove the activities that prevent the process from moving at a constant speed. The objective of this paper is to review the process of doing laundry. This paper will recognize and discuss the main bottlenecks within the process. This paper will also apply Goldratt’s theory of constraints to help recognize and overcome the process’ bottlenecks. As identified in week one, I wanted to find a way to achieve and reduce the time it took me to do laundry. I created a flowchart to identify the activities within the process and collected data indicating the time spent performing those activities. Sorting the clothes, selecting the right temperature on the washer, measuring the approximate amount of laundry detergent, and placing clothes into the dryer are among those activities. Several aspects affected these activities such as the time method, the time spent on separating clothes, and time needed to washer to fill up with water. These factors, if contributing to the delay of washing clothes in a timely manner, would be considered to be bottlenecks. Of the above aspects, the main bottleneck is the need to sort the clothes before they are placed in the washer. This slows the process of the clothes being washed at a descent time. Once I am thrown off schedule of doing laundry, my attention is immediately directed elsewhere causing me to lose focus of my main goal. Goldratt’s Theory of Constraints (TOC) recommends that the above issue can be settled by pursuing a few simple steps (Dettmer, 1997): Identify the constraint, exploit the constraint, subordinate everything else to the constraint,
