Anthropology Second Film Paper Assignment God Grew Tired Of Us In 1983 the civil war of North and South Sudan broke out because of years of fighting of the Arab North against the Black Christian and Animus South, religion and oil were the main reasons behind the fighting. In 1987, the Muslim government sent out an announcement to kill all male children in the South regardless of age. In order to survive the bloody war, thousands fled from Sudan to Ethiopia. When the Muslim government reached word of those who fled, the 86,000 men fled from Ethiopia to Kenya. The 12,000 men who were able to survive when they reached their destination were referred to as the “Lost Boys of Sudan”.
The fighting started when the government started their discrimination the Africans in Darfur to help the Arabs. During this time President Omar Bashir took over. Bashir directed campaigns for killing and raping of the Africans. The Sudan Liberation Movement Army and the Justice and Equality took it upon themselves to fight the government in their ways. After they do this, the government brings in a group named the “Janjaweeds.” The Janjaweeds went through Sudan and attacked innocent villages (Genocide in Darfur United).
The novel A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah is a book about the civil way in Sierra Leone which took place during the early 1990's all the way up until the early 2000's. During this civil war many human right were violated and some were even taken away from the innocent citizens of Sierra Leone by a group of men and children that called themselves the rebels. They were rebelling against the Sierra Leone government and their ways of showing their anger was by raiding villages and brutally attacking whoever was in the town at the time of attack. Then before they left the town they would burn down all the houses and buildings to ensure that no one could return to the village and survive. Some of the rights that were taken away from these citizens by the rebels were the right to life and the right to food and shelter for all.

The “Trial of Thomas Builds-the-Fire”, begins with Thomas in the tribal holding cell and the BIA officials talking about how dangerous he is because he is a storyteller who has an extreme need to tell the truth. Thomas didn’t speak for twenty years after he promised to remain silent when he was held for holding the reservation postmaster, Eve Ford hostage. He then begins to make noises and the tribal chairman’s wife leaves her husband after she heard Thomas speak and he was arrested the next day. When the trial begins he tells the story of how he was a pony in war and fought the whites after they killed over 800 horses. Thomas was one of the only ones to survive and decides to go fight the whites after he sees his fellow brother and sisters wanting to admit defeat.

The Interamwhe and the Janjaweed were responsible for the attacks, burnings, killing of men and children, and rape between the women. In both cases, the world hasn’t done anything to stop the impending attacks. Rwanda’s genocide took place in the whole country, whether it is rural or urban setting. He was born in Nebraska but was mostly raised in Michigan and although King grew up in a community with a strong African American presence, Malcolm grew up in a community where little to none of that background. As a child, he lost his father at a young age and his mother was deemed mental and no longer fit to raise Malcolm. After being sent to a foster home, he was raised by white parents and attended white schools. However his dream to become a lawyer was ruined when a teacher heard his education plans and simply laughed.
