National Southwest Border Counternarcotic Strategy Abstract Today I will be providing a summary of the elements of the national southwest border counternarcotic strategy. I will begin by outlining the chapters of the NSWBCN strategy. Then I will explain how their contents and supporting language might support their state level objectives and serve as potential justification for requesting federal grants or congressional appropriations. I will also explain how SWB related critical infrastructure protection, response, and resilience imperatives should be integrated into future versions of department of homeland security strategies and policies. CBP continues to modernize current communications systems to provide greater range, enhance security, and increase technological advancement incorporation to meet the needs of Federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement. Also chapter 4 sections B talks about having the right aircraft and sufficient aircraft in the border area. This could be used by local law enforcement to obtain federal aid or grants to purchase as well as upgrade and maintain aircraft that could be used in conjunction with federal agencies in the area to assist in counternarcotic activities. Chapter 5 section B also talks about an area in which states could use as a platform for grants and federal aid to build more court rooms to handle the increase in court cases of those caught under counternarcotic stings along the southwest border. The five busiest United States Attorneys’ Offices are all on the Southwest border: the Southern District of California, the District of Arizona, the District of New Mexico, the Western District of Texas and the Southern District of Texas. Places such as Texas for one has a lot to do with oil refining and as such holds a higher security risk and you add that with the added traffic of illegal immigrants coming through the state to make their way into the rest of the country it adds another level of risk to the equation. This is a critical piece of protection for the entire country if a terrorist group were to successfully complete a dry or practice run on critical infrastructure in this are it would give them experience needed to target higher populated
