Wednesday, 9th April, we have an exciting trip at Bopiliao Old Street which is just a very small part of what used to be known as Bangka, one of the oldest and most developed parts of Taipei a few centuries ago. Bopiliao is today a venue for exhibitions, concerts and various activities. It looked a little abandoned on the Wednesday morning, when I went to with class, but that was great, because I could take some very clean shots of the area without disturbing any passers-by. At the Bopiliao Historic District, you can see well-preserved streets and traditional shop homes from the Qing period, as well as buildings from the Japanese occupation and early post-war periods. These buildings have witnessed the development of the Mengjia area (Wanhua District) over the years and form an important part of Taipei's historic urban landscape. Due to the different construction times or remodeling, the materials for decoding the front of decorated buildings in Bopiliao Old Street block cover simple brick, facial washed terrazzo. [pic] [pic] Overall, Bopiliao Old Street is an interesting place with historical buildings and stores as well as the creative art works. Visitors may visit the street for sightseeing and learning Taiwanese history. ----------------------- The large building at the end - the only one open to the main street - houses a children's activity area on the first floor.You can also see displays on "your grandfather's Taiwan" and learn about Lu A-Chang, a local doctor who also contributed quite a bit to the development of medicine in Taiwan. Upstairs there are more exhibits on medicine in Taiwan, mostly in Chinese. Out back you can also play several easy, old-fashioned children's games, such as old-fashioned pinball.
